At Homai Early Childhood Centre, play is an essential part of our day—a time to get our tīnana moving, connect with Papatūānuku, and develop new skills while building strong friendships.
Tuesdays are our sports days, and our tamariki are learning to listen to instructions through fun, interactive games. Using colors as cues, they quickly recognize that red means freeze, green means weave the ball through their legs, and orange means soft kicks. These activities not only make movement exciting but also support their coordination, patience, and concentration.
This week, our tamariki explored soccer, practicing how to aim and kick the ball into the goal. They worked on balance, coordination, and precision through engaging drills, including kicking a ball off a tee—which brought plenty of laughter and excitement!
Through play, we see the unique personalities, temperaments, and attitudes of our tamariki shine. Sport teaches teamwork, resilience, and perseverance—all important life skills that will support them as they grow.
