Play-Based Learning and Connecting with Nature

Writer: Lachlan StirlingLachlan Stirling

At our centre, we embrace the magic of play-based learning and the importance of connecting with nature. Our tamariki thrive when given opportunities to explore the world around them, and our māra (garden) has been a wonderful space for hands-on learning. Together, they have planted, watered, and cared for the garden, gaining valuable skills and a deeper appreciation for te taiao (the natural world).

We know that tamariki learn best through experience—whether it's through activities, interactions with peers, or sensory play that enhances hand-eye coordination. Whenever the opportunity arises, we encourage them to feel, touch, and play in nature.

After the rain, two of our young adventurers found the perfect moment to have fun outside, embracing the joy and wonder of the natural world. These moments of exploration and discovery are what make learning so special!
