Outdoor Learning at Kākano

Writer: Lachlan StirlingLachlan Stirling

There’s nothing better than fun, sunshine, and big smiles as our tamariki explore the great outdoors!

At Kākano Early Childhood Centre, we embrace nature-based learning, and this week, we took our tamariki on an excursion to the park. Getting outside boosts confidence, strengthens connections with the local community, and provides rich opportunities for play-based learning.

Summer is a time of exploration, creativity, and sensory discovery. Our tamariki love engaging in water play, ice play, and painting, which not only cools them off but also stimulates their curiosity and imagination.

Playing with water is more than just fun—it helps tamariki understand basic scientific concepts, like cause and effect, temperature changes, and how different materials interact with water.

At Kākano, we love giving our tamariki plenty of opportunities to play outside, encouraging them to build confidence, develop social skills, and most importantly—have fun!
